The Eye On The Tour Backstory

Would you like to know how it came to pass that you’re reading Eye On The Well, so did Dr. Tony Wright, a master club and putter fitter in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and founder of, his attempt to open up the arcane world of club fitting to us laymen. (The Dr., by the way, is a PhD in physics. Interesting guy. I could say more, but then I’d have to kill you.)

Tony found Eye On The Tour early this year and became a subscriber. I knew that he was enjoying it because from time to time he would send me appreciative and encouraging personal emails when a particular post captured his fancy.

He started a new podcast feature on his blog as another way to get his message out and he asked me if I would be willing to do an interview with him. Always empathetic with others trying to arrange interviews, I told him that I would be delighted.

So after he tutored me in the fine points of communicating by Skype, we sat down together across the country and he turned me loose. I’m not sure if I dumbfounded him or if he was just a master at letting an indefatigable storyteller rumble along. So for a little over 30 minutes, I got into how I decided to spend nine years chasing an elusive Tour card on the Champions Tour, how I became a writer and how that evolved into Eye On The Tour.

Here’s the link to Tony’s quite professional production. Click the kelly green play button:

The first five minutes are Tony’s edited attempt to get a word in edgewise; he added a nice vignette about a recent club fitting success he had.

I hope you enjoy it.
